The world generated a record 62 million tonnes of electronic waste in 2022 — on track to reach 82 million tonnes by 2030. That's enough discarded devices to form a bumper-to-bumper line of trucks encircling the equator. Meanwhile, less than a quarter is formally recycled, leaving US $62 billion in recoverable materials unaccounted for.
